How is Dyslexia Diagnosed?

Difficulty reading can begin as early as preschool. However, at this time it can be difficult to tell if this is due to the learning disability dyslexia. Around kindergarten teachers may begging to notice students struggling to learn letter/sound correspondence and learning to decode print using phonemic decoding. Before a student is tested for comprehensive evaluation, the school may choose to monitor the student to see if they are performing at grade level. If the student is below grade level teachers and dyslexia specialist can go on to further testing. If needed the student would then be placed in early intervention. This allows the student to get the extra help they need to get back on grade level and to be the most successful they can be in school.
