The Misconception of Dyslexia

Most people when they think of dyslexia they think of reading and writing challenges. While these can be true dyslexia also is social anxiety, word recall, stuttering, literal interpretation, memory challenges and more. Due to there being such a big misunderstanding about dyslexia you may notice some students who act out and get in trouble, students acting as the class clown, acting invisible, or asking to leave due to anxiety. Many dyslexic students and even adults use the actions to avoid embarrassment or being singled out. To better help this we need to help everyone understand that dyslexia is more than just a reading disorder and that dyslexia does not determine your intelligence!
